The Institution

Imperial Valley College (IVC) is a public community college in Imperial, California, serving approximately 7,000–8,100 students through associate degrees, certificates, and transfer programs. Recognized for its commitment to equitable student success, IVC was named a co-winner of the 2023 Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence after years of focused institutional improvement.

The Challenge

Following an accreditation warning in 2013, IVC recognized that disconnected planning and assessment processes limited institutional visibility and long-term improvement. While new planning processes restored accreditation, leadership knew sustainable success would require connecting assessment, budgeting, strategic planning, and institutional outcomes within a unified, data-informed framework.

The Approach

Plan it. Prove it. Do it.

Plan it. Do it. Prove it.

Using the Nuventive Improvement Platform, IVC centralized assessment, planning, budgeting, and program review to create a single source of truth for institutional improvement.

  • Plan it. Align strategic initiatives, budgeting, and institutional goals with course, program, and service-level outcomes.
  • Do it. Standardize program review, assessment, and reporting while giving faculty and administrators actionable dashboards and built-in reports.
  • Prove it. Measure progress with integrated reporting, demonstrate alignment between resources and outcomes, and continuously refine strategies using evidence-based decision-making.

In Their Words

One of the key aspects where Nuventive has been instrumental is helping us tie assessment to planning and budget allocation. Before, we had two distinct systems. Nuventive allows us to streamline and make connections we were never able to make before.
