The Institution

New Mexico Junior College (NMJC) is a public community college in Hobbs, New Mexico, serving students across southeastern New Mexico through associate degrees, certificates, and workforce training programs. As the institution prepared for its 10-year Higher Learning Commission (HLC) comprehensive evaluation, leaders sought a more connected approach to assessment, planning, and institutional effectiveness.

The Challenge

Assessment activities were well established across campus, but data lived in spreadsheets, documents, and department-specific reporting formats. Consolidating results required significant manual effort, making it difficult to demonstrate how assessment, planning, budgeting, and strategic priorities aligned across the institution. NMJC wanted a single framework that could answer an important question: How do we know our work is making an impact?

The Approach

Plan it. Prove it. Do it.

Plan it. Do it. Prove it.

Using the Nuventive Improvement Platform, NMJC standardized assessment reporting and brought assessment, planning, program review, and strategic initiatives together in one shared system.

  • Plan it. Align strategic planning, program review, budgeting, and institutional priorities within a connected framework.
  • Do it. Standardize assessment reporting and centralize documentation so faculty and departments can consistently capture and manage outcomes.
  • Prove it. Generate uniform reports, provide clear evidence for accreditation, and give leadership visibility into institutional progress and measurable improvement.

In Their Words

The real strength is what happens after the data goes in. I can quickly pull reports and make them presentable without spending weeks consolidating everything.

— Charlotte Schmitz, Academic Assessment Coordinator, New Mexico Junior College
