The Institution

Oklahoma State University is a public land-grant university serving more than 25,000 students across 87 undergraduate majors and hundreds of graduate and professional programs. As a decentralized institution, OSU sought a more connected way to bring assessment data together and empower faculty to make informed decisions that improve student learning.

The Challenge

Prior to implementing Nuventive, assessment processes varied widely across colleges and programs. Information was difficult to consolidate, expectations were inconsistent, and assessment was often viewed as a compliance exercise rather than an opportunity for continuous improvement. Faculty lacked a centralized system to track outcomes, share findings, and turn assessment into meaningful action.

The Approach

Plan it. Prove it. Do it.

Plan it. Do it. Prove it.

Using the Nuventive Improvement Platform, Oklahoma State University transformed assessment into a collaborative, institution-wide process with centralized reporting, configurable workflows, and interactive dashboards.

  • Plan it. Standardize assessment planning and create consistent workflows across academic programs.
  • Do it. Collect assessment data in a centralized platform with dashboards, reporting, and visualizations that help faculty understand student learning.
  • Prove it. Use longitudinal data and evidence to identify learning gaps, implement improvements, and measure the impact of curricular changes across programs.

In Their Words

Before 2017, everyone was pretty much doing their own thing. There was no proper record keeping method or follow-up process… Ultimately, this process created a culture of doing the bare minimum in terms of assessing student learning.

Everyone is fully informed through emails and our community support group. We can provide quick, thoughtful, thorough, and comprehensive feedback through a review process, using Nuventive as a critical tool to communicate that information.

— Dr. Kelva Hunger, Associate Director of Assessment and Analysis

  • Engaged 90% of academic programs in active assessment and continuous improvement.

  • Implemented a new institution-wide assessment process in just eight months.

  • Improved collaboration through standardized templates, shared workflows, and centralized reporting.
  • Enabled faculty to identify learning gaps and implement curriculum improvements using assessment data.
